Consider the room’s purpose and priority – is privacy, light, fashion or mood a consideration?

Light colours are airy and bright whilst darker tones add coziness and warmth. A polyester mix will be more affordable.

Velvets and silks create an air of luxury whilst a sheer adds privacy, but still allows light in.

Ideally use a polyester or polyester blend which is less likely to absorb the steam. Blinds are also an ideal solution for a bathroom.
Depending on the style of your room, match the fabric to your colour scheme, use a texture for warmth or pattern to create a feature.
Use a blackout fabric or add blackout lining to your chosen fabric to block out the light. Velvet curtains create luxury and warmth. A sheer can be added as a layer for privacy. Avoid bright, shiny colours that might disturb you getting a good night’s sleep.
Kitchens are more suited to pattern. A cotton print is ideal for this as it is also lightweight. Kitchens are also generally more suited to a blind, as windows tend to be smaller.

Modern look – use an eyelet or wave headed curtain

Classic look – for a more classic feel go for a pencil pleat, pinch pleat (double or triple) or goblet heading.

Roman Blinds also look good when paired with curtains, you can mix plain and pattern by doing this.

Blackout or Dimout fabrics will block out the light. However, please note that some light will still enter the room above the curtain track/pole and at the sides of a blind. If you are just wanting to stop the glare from direct sunlight, then add a sheer fabric.
Colour is very much a personal preference, but you should aim to match or contrast to your walls, flooring and furniture. Use neutral tones to blend in or bold patterns and colour to make a statement.

Choose an upholstery fabric that is durable with a high Martindale. For households with small children and pets a stain resistant fabric might be favoured.

A Martindale is a test sometimes referred to as a rub test where a sample is rubbed against a surface with force to mimic natural wear and tear.

Heavier weight fabrics are generally better to use on furniture. Many prefer a plain fabric so that it does not date too quickly.

If used for upholstery or in public areas you will need to have your fabric treated to the correct FR standard, we can do this at a surcharge. We also sell contract fabrics that are already inherently FR.
Over time all fabrics will fade, especially if exposed to direct sunlight. Adding a curtain lining will help block the sunlight and add to the longevity of your curtains.

This is where the pattern looks identical again horizontally and vertically on the fabric, it is required to join curtain/blinds at the edges for wider curtains.

If unsure when ordering fabric, please consult a professional curtain maker.

This is a personal preference

Blackout – Blocks sunlight
Thermal – Adds Insulation
Standard – Lightweight and affordable
Interlining – Adds volume and warmth

Measure the pole/track width. Then measure from the pole/track to the desired length – windowsill, below sill or the floor.

The width measurement needs to be multiplied by 1.5-2 when ordering fabric, for fullness in your curtains.

If you do not have a curtain pole fitted already, a number of our stockists will be able to help with any additional services such as curtain poles, measuring or fitting.

4-6 inches above the window frame.
Each curtain should hang 4-6 inches wider than the window frame; this will help block out any unwanted light or draughts.
This is a personal preference, floor length curtains make the room look bigger, whilst sill length creates a more casual look.

Yes – the majority of all our new launch fabrics are sustainable. We are a member of the BCI (better cotton initiative).

Firstly, decide whether the blind is to sit inside or outside of the window.

Measure the width of the window at the top, middle and bottom and go with the smallest width, do the same for the height left, middle and right and select the smallest measurement.

For an outside mounted blind, measure the area you wish to cover.
